Autumn Fashion Galore at Midland Gate

Midland Gate is a fashion focused shopping centre and on my recent visit I certainly was impressed with the number of specialty retailers they have for women’s, children’s and men’s fashion for different ages, lifestyles and budgets. Take a moment to look at the store directory here  and I’m sure you will find many of your favourite stores and you too will be surprised with what they have to offer.

Yd, Best & Less, W Lane, Peter Alexander, Jeanswest, Cotton On Kids, Kathmandu, Beme, Cotton on Body and Valley Girl were chosen for the Instagram Guess the Retailer Instagram Competition to show off some Autumn fashion available at Midland Gate. 1 outfit from each retailer was created but I could have shown you so much more! However I guess that means there are more fabulous finds for you to discover.

With so much choice I can understand that shopping for autumn fashion can become overwhelming. Below I share a few shopping tips for anyone who doesn’t know where to start along with the outfits from Week 2 of Guess the Retailer. For some autumn styling tips and the Week 1 looks click here.

Get in, Get Out Shopping Style

I love shopping and my shopping style is to look in every store before making a decision BUT when there are specialty retailers that sell everything you are in need of I would suggest you save yourself valuable time by heading straight to where the goods are. Peter Alexander is a one stop kind of shop for all bedtime needs.

I’ll have what she’s wearing

The fastest way to figure out what is new and how to wear it is to look at the mannequins and the visual merchandising of the store. The new arrivals and best sellers are usually on display and a styling idea for the garments is present to you. Even if you don’t buy the exact look, you may get suggestions of colour and texture combinations or you may spot some fabulous accessories to finish off your looks.

Look no further

It felt a bit too easy selecting a look from Cotton On Body because the new arrival garments are already grouped with their complimentary colours and all the surrounding pieces can be mix and matched. Often the new arrivals are grouped and displayed in their collections so when you find something that takes your interest, take note of the surrounding garments for styling ideas.

Their snake print leggings stood out to me and they were right next to the long sleeve pink jumper. I didn’t have to search hard at all thanks to the great visual merchandising of the store.

Totally Clueless

I felt out of my depth when shopping for menswear because it’s all so foreign to me being female and its early days in my fashion stylist career. I decided I wanted to put together an autumn look for a male who would usually wear casual clothes such as jeans and skate shoes but was off to an event that required neat attire. I believe that this is a typical scenario that guys find themselves in and I wanted to come up with a suitable outfit option.

I told the menswear stylist at yd what I was aiming for and she said she would help me out. I selected a shirt that had personality and took my liking and she recommended to pair it with chinos. While I was pondering whether brown shoes would look better than black, the stylist was already bagging up a pair of shoes in chocolate and a matching belt. At this point I began feeling like I wasn’t selecting this look at all! But at the same time I appreciated how helpful she was being. The stylist knew exactly what she was doing and I didn’t need much persuasion to take a risk and finish off the look with a grey textured blazer. I walked in clueless, received the highest customer service from the staff and walked out with a great look with a bit of personality that would make a guy standout from the crowd for the right reasons. Don’t be afraid to ask for help!

On trend for Less

I aim to look modern, on trend and I love that feeling when you are wearing something new for the first few times. Unfortunately my budget doesn’t allow me to buy everything I would like to buy but it is still possible to achieve my goals by shopping in well priced retailers and find those low price essentials and on trend pieces for the season. Browse all stores and decide which new season trends you desire then hunt for the pieces at the prices you can justify.
